Purchasing the wrong type of mattress can make for an eternity of sleepless nights whereas, conversely, purchasing the best mattress on the market can ensure that the maximum enjoyment is received each time you lay your head on your pillow to rest.

What to Look For

With a cheap foam mattress or a quality foam mattress, you are basically looking for the density of the foam. As a general rule, the quality of the mattress depends on the density of the foam so the greater foam density that exists in the mattress ensures a better quality mattress. Of course, density alone won't tell you how comfortable the mattress is and it also will not tell you what kind of fillers went into the foam.

In the retail outlet, lie down on the bed and ensure you are getting the support where it will be needed most such as the shoulders, lower back, and hips. Make sure the bed isn't too soft or too hard and try the bed out first. If you are purchasing the mattress from the internet, make sure that they have a good return policy.

Foam Mattress Quality Questions

Like anything else you get what you pay for, but some times there are manufacturers out there that don't even give you that much because you are unsuspecting and don't really know what goes into the cheap foam mattress. Some manufacturers have been known to substitute the quality foam filler that makes a true memory mattress with a cheaper grade filler to save them money. Clearly, the savings are rarely passed on to the consumer.

Other ways to get a cheap foam mattress is to purchase a "topper". Most toppers that you purchase in the retail store will not last long, in other words the foam will break down very quickly and lose its memory quality. A better option is to add a quality memory foam topper to your already existent mattress because it will last long and provide a great alternative to the retail bed sets.
