The preferences we have when it comes to what gives us comfortable sleep are endless because we all sleep in different positions and some of us toss and turn more than others. All these little things can influence what the best type of bed frame and mattress is for you.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All

What works for some people may not work for you and this goes without saying. If you’ve tried out a bed at a friend’s place and decided it’s the one for you, it may be comfortable but there needs to be a reliable indicator that it is also practical for your situation.

A bed frame and mattress that is too big for your bedroom can make a room look smaller. If you like lots of space then you need to make sure your bed frame and mattress are proportionate to your room. Practicalities like enough space to move around in when changing bedding should also be taken into consideration.

If the only place you can put your bed is tucked away in a corner where there is no space to tuck in a bed sheet on one side, you may need to get a smaller bed.  A good way to get an idea of how your bed will affect movement is to draw an outline of the bed frame and mattress and then see how much space is taken up.

Is the Bed for One or Two People?

Another thing to consider when buying a bed frame and mattress is how many people are going to sleep on it. If you are going to be sharing your bed, you need to make sure that there is enough room that you do not roll into your partner at night. A spring mattress is ideal for two people as you are less likely to disturb the other person with your tossing and turning.

How Do You Sleep?

Different mattresses work better for different sleeping positions. A firmer mattress is best if you sleep on your stomach, this way your spine is aligned even though you are not sleeping on your back. Someone who sleeps on their back needs something in between their back and the mattress firm enough so that they get enough back support, but not too firm that it is uncomfortable. Finally, a softer mattress is the way to go if you like to sleep on your side as it holds the contours of your body better.
